The SCDA was formed in December 2001 by Anne Marshall, with the goal of being a laid back group that had fun, while learning to dance. We meet on most Sunday evenings from 7.00 to 9.00pm. Unfortunately from December 2009 we are losing the use of our usual studio, Quicksilver, so we are moving to the McPhail's Dance Studio adjacent to Randalls Supermarket on Mesa (address & map). Occasionally after dance we adjourn for coffee somewhere convenient. Each week we rotate preparing and briefing a dance program amongst ourselves. Dianna Shipman, of Scottish Country Dancing and More, has visited from Houston as a guest teacher and occasionally we get together with other dance groups, like the Bluebonnet Dancers in San Antonio. Many of our dancers also dance with the Austin Scottish Country Dance Society. We tend to get involved with other Scottish activities around Austin, such as the Austin Celtic Festival and celebrating Hogmanay and Burns Night! Our modest dues of $15 per month go mainly towards renting the studio and providing music. Dress is most definitely casual although dancing ghillies (soft soled shoes) are highly recommended.
